Gather in worship

Acts 2:42-47 "They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved."

Gathering to glorify God

Ever since the early church began, Christians have tended to gather. Acts 2:42-47 is a descriptive snapshot of all the things they did when they gathered. We believe things happen when we are together that don't happen when we are alone. So we gather for these four reasons:

  • We Gather to Worship. When we worship we focus on God, His character and His worth, we give thanks for what He's done, we acknowledge His greatness, we admit our dependence upon Him. We take time to praise Him, to worship Him together.

  • We Gather to Learn. Our goal in our Sunday morning sermons is to provide the church body with a healthy "diet" of expository teaching, drawn from the Old and New Testaments. The Scriptures reveal and remind. We learn to see God, ourselves, life and history from God's perspective. Our aim is not simply to gain Bible knowledge, but to always seek life-related applications, to ask ourselves what this knowledge looks like in the coming week.

  • We Gather to Celebrate. Everyone experiences defining moments and rites of passage in their lives, and as a community we want to pay attention to those. We want to celebrate new babies, baptisms of new believers, communion, milestones, special days.

  • We Gather to Focus. We want to remember who we are and what we are called to be as a church.

Hebrews 10:24-25 "And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching."

Transformation through a loving community

We believe that life change happens best in small groups. We seek to create spaces where people can feel they belong, where they matter to the others in their group, where they can "do life" by sharing their ups and downs and find the support of loving friends along the way. That's difficult to experience in a large gathering. Jesus commands us to love one another, but that doesn't happen unless we spend time together.

A good Bible Study group can be a safe place;

  • for building relationships,

  • for mutual "sharpening" as we study the Scriptures together

  • for spirtual nourishment for our souls

As we do these things God begins to change us, a process that the Bible calls transformation.

Go into the world

Matthew 28:19-20 "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

Making a difference

Jesus calls us to be salt and light in our world. He commissioned us to "make disciples." And so we seek to fulfill those commands by making a difference first in the community we live in, and then expanding our efforts to places in the world where He leads us. In addition, we want to expand our efforts in the area of local ministries, finding ways to meet needs close to home. We desire to serve our community. That may look like volunteering at a soup kitchen, building a house, supporting a needy family etc., the opportunities are out there, and they are endless. As we reach out, we will be reminded that following Christ is not intended to keep us safe and secluded, but to open our eyes and hearts to the needs of others.

We want every church member to have these three experiences:

  • weekly gathering to worship,

  • a meaningful Bible Study,

  • and outreach into the community

Come and find out what God is doing in your community and learn about more opportunities to serve Him in our Community.
